... I've never heard of anything like that, but it doesn't sound pleasant. You could try antifungal cream or OTC cortisone cream (it might get better or worse w/cortisone depending if it is an infection or if it is an allergic reaction) assuming you probably wear sandals or go barefoot outdoors,it could have been some exposure to environmental allergen (like poison ivy) or a bug...
