... the other night just as I turned over in bed as I was dropping off to sleep I felt a TREMENDOUS snap like an huge rubber band had snapped inside the side of the toe where the tendon had been used for the surgery. ... Every case and every surgeon are different. You need to talk with him about how he does it and what he's post op instructions are. The surgeon I plan to use IF I do the fusion has said I'd only be off it for two weeks and then I could drive (right foot big toe) and go back to work. He'll use a plate. Some don't. ... I'm sorry that your surgeon did not honor your request. Did he have a reason for that? I don't think the plate vs screw is a concern. The plate can be bent at any angle and therefore accomdate various heel heights. I've discussed this with my surgeon as I want to be able to wear a higher heel. ... Arthrodesis simlpy means fusion. So that doesn't say exactly what all he plans to do...plates, screws, osteotomies, etc. There was someone here a while back that found a good doc in Fort Meyers....maybe a search will bringup the name or the OP will see this and reply.
