I have done some reading and it seems when a bone graft is done the recovery is longer and the drs are more cautious. ... As someone who had a joint replacement in the big toe that failed and then has had a fusion, I would go with the fusion. The recovery was hard as I had a bone graft from my hip, but it was worth it in the end. My only limitation is my heel height. I can do almost any activity that I want to. ... (11 replies)

... hi brenda, i had big toe fusion a little over 2 years ago. i did find from these boards a lot of the fusions are done differently. i had a bone graft from my heel and i was in a hard cast for 11 weeks. i then went to a rocker boot for 4 weeks. after a few days of recovery there really was no pain. ...
