Hi wingfeeted- I had different procedures but I didn't believe I was progressing "normally" after my surgery because of the excess scar tissue, so I went and obtained a second opinion from another orthopedic surgeon, a co-chief at a different hospital, HSS. I had a gastrocnemius recession on my left calf along with lapidus bunionectomy with screws and a plate/fusion and two "hammer toe" surgeries on the next two toes, shortening them and straightening them with pins. I've been out of the boot for awhile now - perhaps about 5 or six weeks out (had surgery on May 30th - today is August 24th). My calf still has a good sized lump... (4 replies)

This is a long recovery but for the bunionectomy you've had 6 months until you start hiking might be possible if you move into healing properly. 6 weeks for the bone to heal. 12 weeks fully. ...
