... Is there any popping with eversion of the affected ankle? You may very well have Peroneal subluxation that was caused by chronic ankle issues/instability. All it takes is one too many sprains and it can stretch the retinaculum that holds the Peroneal muscles and tendons in place, and it can cause pain along the lateral boarder of the foot up the outside of the ankle half way...
