Bunion surgery

... Hi! How did your surgery go? I had a lapidus done 3 weeks ago, but I have screws, not pins. Two screws will stay, but one might "make its way out." I am still on crutches, not weightbearing. My incisions healed nicely (2 week mark), but the swelling is definitely there. The aircast will be around 8 weeks, and then I'll be in a shoe. How about you? Hope it's going well! (3 replies)

... I didn't have bunion surgery but had a brostrum/peroneal/cover repair and for whatever reason it was almost a month for me post op before I could put my bare foot on the ground. It would flush, swell and hurt like I was getting hit with a bomb at every heartbeat. I simply couldn't do it. So I would get up in stages to give my body time to adjust and then had to lift my leg... (10 replies)

... Hey, Rommie! Good to know I am not alone in all this!! My one week follow-up appointment was this past Friday and my foot (according to my doc) looks great and is healing beautifully! The x-rays were pretty cool and my foot itself is nearly unrecognisable: so straight and no bunion! Yay! He said that I could start to put pressure on the foot again as long as my boot was on,... ... I thought I'd post again in case it helps anyone in the future. On Day 1 and 2 Post surgery I rested and elevated as much as possible. I also took 2 Norco every 4-5 hours for the first day post op. Second day I moved to one Norco every 5 hours. On Day 3 in the AM we noticed some black and blue spot on my arm in two different locations. I believe it is a reaction to the... (8 replies)
... Good for you! Anyway, as the grandmother, you shouldn't be hosting. :) I put my full weight on both feet as I walked out of the hospital and didn't feel any pain at all. And I had both feet done so I couldn't even limp! lol! I wouldn't bother with crutches, but if you have any balance issues, a cane won't hurt. (8 replies)

... KathyT -- Did your doctor say you would be able to return to work after that many days? Every surgery, recovery is different, but that seems like very soon to return to work if you will be totally non-weight bearing (NWB).
