My surgeon is conservative and told me I would have a cast for ten weeks, primarily because of the big toe fusion. Today I got 35 stitches and 3 wires out of the lesser toes. Third cast today. ... I'm not sure if your question is for me or kasey10, but I'll answer. I was off of my feet for several days and then started hobbling around keeping surgical sandals on at all times. I was into tennis shoes at week 4 and could've gone back to work then for at least a few hours anyway (though I don't work). The key for me was ice and constant elevation. (3 replies)

Just wanted to add that my surgery was done by an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in foot/ankle surgery.
