... Happy New Year and good luck to you Star! I myself am 56 and just had double Modified McBride bunionectomies (with screws put in) about 2 weeks ago. It's good that you're getting prepared, including planning to be off work. I underestimated the amount of pain involved. It's survivable but difficult. (I had cancer earlier in 2010 and I almost feel the bunionectomies have... (14 replies)
... I can walk with some crutch assistance…still doesn’t want full weight. Oops. I can drive and I can shower….I can unwrap my bandage, clean the pins and ice directly on top of the foot....I don't have near the wrapping I did for the past 2 weeks. The bad news is that my second toe is a little jacked up and worst case scenario have to have a tendon shortening done….but it... (149 replies)
... d the sites on my foot where they went in are sore and bruised so I'm not looking forward to that. I've been told though that it takes 10 minutes and there is no recuperation time or anything. From others I have learned that the pin sites heal fairly quickly. I chose this to avoid crutches... ... (149 replies)

... it plays head games on me! This is a major foot surgery that requires a long recuperation period...that is the reason so many doctors do not favor the lapidus procedure, although in the long run it is proven to have great results. ... (21 replies)
... The recuperation took months Dec. until May before I did not have all sorts of pain and ROM issues. ... (9 replies)
... Hi Brook, I don't know how much reading you have done on these boards but it might be a good idea to read as much as possible. I really think that the first rule that should never be broken is....Don't have surgery unless it is painful!! There are, I'm sure, a lot of people who would agree with me. There are so many different surgeries for bunions that you could never... (10 replies)
... f surgery for 12 years, making excuses. I am 33. I have severe bunions, plus problems with 2nd and 3rd toes. My left foot is all fixed. Although frustrating, the recuperation was a lot better than I expected. Keep in mind I had bunionectomy, an osteotomy, one toe shortened and knuckles shaved down on 2 toes. ... (5 replies)
... I feel I'm in pretty good shape for my age. The recuperation is not as bad as some of the postings I've read on this message board. Some people really had a rough time. Of course, I haven't really done anything either. ... (192 replies)
... Girl! Best advise is to read as many posts as you can! I can't tell you how much these boards helped me with my recovery! You will need to take a few weeks off. But, it all depends on the severity of your surgery. Another thing I've learned is that your doc will be all "YOu'll be fine in a couple of weeks" BULL!!!!! Docs whether its Pod or ORtho do their business and... (65 replies)
... You will most definitely need 3 months for recuperation...I had bunion surgery (one foot) one year ago July 2004. I did take off 3 months from work and it was truly at 6 months before I was able to walk comfortably without pain and tenderness from the is a very long healing that is underestimated by the physician...I wish that I had known up front... ... I am searching for a doctor to perform surgery on my hammer toe. Today I saw Dr. Moy as suggested by a friend. He is the fourth doctor that I have seen regarding my surgery. The other doctors suggested that I have my second toe bone cut down to shorten the toe and two metatarsal bones shortened as well as cutting the nerves between two of the toes to relieve some of my... ... What do I think? As I am not a physician, I can’t advise you about how this foot of yours can be fixed – but I can offer other wise advice. It is imperative that you be very careful about selecting the right doc for your surgery. When I had a bunionectomy about 3 years ago, I flew from Washington DC to Lake Forest, California, to have the procedure done by an excellent... (73 replies)
... y, bone fusion will no longer be an option because there will be no bone left in the toe to fuse. I so don't want to go through the agony of another surgery and recuperation period. The pain after surgery was excruciating. I had to sleep on a couch for 7 weeks in order to keep my foot elevated and reduce the swelling. ... (10 replies)
... Had bunionectomy, Morton Neuroma and 1 hammertoe done on 6/26. Am getting around on crutches now, and will be doing so through my sixth week. Speak with your MD and get an honest timeline of your upcoming recuperation. Based on my own experience, I can't imagine being back on my feet without crutches 4 weeks post surgery. In my case, the Morton Neuroma has been the most... (5 replies)
... I'm just planning ahead and wondering if anyone can suggest activities to do during recuperation from a bunionectomy. I am so afraid I will be totally bored during those weeks. I can read and watch TV just so long and then I need something else to do. ... (8 replies)
... Do you know what type of bunion surgery your dr. is planning? There are literally dozens of different surgeries for bunions, and each one has it's own time-table for recuperation - depending on how extensive of a surgery is planned. For a "simple bunionectomy" (where all the dr. does is shave off the bony prominance), I've heard the recovery time is relatively quick, and... (27 replies)
... I just had a bunionectomy in January because my left foot was becoming so painful like you describe. ... (8 replies)
... I am 12 weeks post op from a bunionectomy osteonomy. I saw the Dr. this morning and he cleared me and said everything looks super. One last xray showed everything has healed nicely. ... (25 replies)
