... I just had bunion surgery Friday morning as well as hammertoe correction, what they did for me was take out a wedge of my bone in my big toe, put a permanent screw in it to help keep it straight, and then "released" my tendon on my second toe. The surgery itself went fine and way better than I had anticipated. ... (3 replies)
... I found that orthotics helped me after surgery. It seems to take the pressure off of the forefoot. Apparently, a lot of folks with bunions also have flat feet; that's not the case with me. Maybe a higher arch puts a little more pressure on the front of my foot. For me, a lot depends on the shoe. I have some shoes or boots that I'll keep a little support in even now (not... (6 replies)

... I have (had) extremely bad bunions, and haven't been able to wear anything but heavily padded running shoes for decades. Finally it got to the point where I couldn't even walk in them without pain, and I went in for surgery. My foot doctor said that on a scale of 1-10, my bunions were a 9. ... shed with minimally invasive surgery, no screws and no wires. There would be only one break in the toe which would correct the angle, but which would not need a screw or stitches. ... Ok I am 2 days pst op from an austin bunionectomy. Going into this I did not like the idea of having foreign objects left in my foot. Of course now that I am out of work and have time to better explore this I am wishing I followed my instincts and had the removable pin done. I have a great surgeon who insisted the permanent titanium screws were the way to go. From what I... (4 replies)
... Awesome to hear. I can flex just a lil due to the cast. But both times I had bandage changes, i had him do some toe flexes and I had total range of motion which was amazing. Just tenderness on the spot where my md put the screw. A little numb by the incision. But so far I'm pleased. I just hope I get an air cast upon return so I can see if I can walk at all. (3 replies)
