... Hello all. I am almost 4 weeks post bunionectomy (I believe Austin) via chevron osteotomy with screw fixation on my right foot. My first metatarsal was cut just behind the first MTP joint. Doctor said everything went well and looked good at my 1 week follow up. At my 3 week follow up he removed the bandages and steri-strips leaving just the coflex wrap and said I can... (0 replies)
... I inherited bunyone from my Mothers side of the family. I am male/45. I had the left foot (worse one) done on 1/22, and the right one done on 2/5. Had a lot of issues with swelling and pain on right foot, but right foot went great. On 2/3 I felt a "pop" in the left foot and had to go to the office for x-rays thinking the screw popped loose. The Dr found no issues on x-ray and... (0 replies)
... I ran across your story while researching 5th metatarsal osteotomy surgery for its long term effects. I have had the surgery on both feet now. I had the right foot done in may of 2003. 48 hours post op I returned to my surgeon so he could see how I was doing. After an X-ray he discovered that my internal fixation (pin) had "slipped out of place". He said it was because of the... (4 replies)

... I had surgery 15 days ago. After 10 days, doctor was very concerned that there was a"gap" showing on the x-ray and warned me to totally "baby" my foot or I might have to have surgery again. Has anyone else been told this? I see Dr. in 2 days and am so nervous that there won't be improvement. I have barely moved off the couch in 5 days. (7 replies)
... ay and had xrays and come to find out i have a hematoma insidethe foot that coukd be causing pain to linger plus alot more swelling i have to go back for another x ray in six weeks to see if has gone away which i hope it does ! ... (4 replies)
... Hi Profmia: Your posting said you had a bunion removal 2 years ago for your left foot, was this operation for your R foot a lot different in operation procedure than the L foot? As you could see from my previous posting that I had my bunion surgery done (austin cut) for my right foot (I am right handed too) just around mid march of this year. It has been just past 4 months... (41 replies)
... Greetings: Sent you a hug. I had my bunion (reconstructed foot surgery) two week ago today. Went for post op earlier during the week. I had lots of leakage from area where the pins are but was told to shower the next day. What a disaster! While I was told to bear wt. on the heels something went wrong. Bled profusely. Called my surgeon in panic. Was told to discontinue shower... (41 replies)
... Hi All, Thanks so much for continuing to tell your stories. I had my 2 week post-op check-up with the nurse and at first found myself barely able to squint at the damage as the original dressings were removed. However very pleased to say that my feet didn't look half bad. Some bruising to my second toes, redness and a bit of swelling around the joint, very little dried... (41 replies)
... arco velcro shoe. I am partial weightbearing and getting around quite a bit. I use crutches at all times but I put my foot down and don't have any pain. I had an x ray one week ago today when I was switched into this shoe. I have a tight feeling under my big toe and a dull ache in the pre bunion area if I'm up for an hour. ... (26 replies)
... I need my car to work and I have told my employer I need a while to be able to get back into it after the x ray etc, Ive been put on a phased return to work for 4 weeks from 22nd march. ... (41 replies)
... Thanks Star! You will be so happy you are doing the pre-surgery planning. It will make it so much easier for everyone when you return home to heal, especially YOU who will be able to relax! My husband thought I was a little nutty trying to get everything organized beforehand, (bills, laundry, some cleaning, cooking meals to freeze, etc) but I think now he can appreciate... (14 replies)
... who is weightbearing within a month who had scarf bunionectomy? saw Dr. on the 10th of Dec and no walking boot...BUT...he was shocked that I had no painpills since Sunday. he says my foot is doing so good, I make a good candidate for a foot poster (not sure if I take that nicely or wrongly...) anyways, he says I can put pressure on my heal as long only if I can..he does... ... That is pretty much what he did. He cut a v-shape into my bone and put 2 screws in to hold it together. It wasn't just a v-chunk taken out though - the whole top of the bone was moved over. I saw the x-ray of it. (6 replies)
... Yeah I was driving at about 1.5 weeks after surgery on my right foot and one week after my left one. For the right one, my doc gave me a special hard shoe to use rather than the boot, although it always felt weird to me until about 4 weeks. I had a good weekend, I have some soreness today, I was up a lot on my foot yesterday for various things with work, but not painful... (149 replies)
... Yesterday was a great day as I am no longer wearing the bandages--only a compression stocking and a sock. I will go back to the doctor's in 2 weeks and if the foot x-ray is good, I will go into a running shoe. I will probably still have crutches just to keep the weight on the foot minimum but I am so excited. I have put no weight on the foot at all. It is my understanding from... (149 replies)
... Hey everyone, it is good to see feet are healing and everyone is doing well. setla are you still here? Have you made a decision? My foot is doing awesome. I went for a really long walk last week. We walked about an hour and a half, and probably covered 4 or 5 miles. My foot did not hurt at the end. It was wonderful. I do not remember the last time I could walk without pain.... (12 replies)

... No, I haven't done the other foot yet, and probably won't until the same time next year. I was able to get out of the house in week 2, but I also was pretty careful. I figured there was only one chance to do this right, and my husband was taking great care of me. He did all the shopping and let me tag along at about the two week mark. :D Week 3 *shouldn't* be a problem,... (14 replies)
... Yaaaaaaaaaaay!! :bouncing: Cross my fingers that you will only receive good news on your next X-ray visit. Cheers! (12 replies)
... Hi earthworm, it is nice to hear someone else did not ice. I could not even bear to try that, since cold really irritated that joint pre-surgery. I have been given a verdict of no bone infection. :bouncing::bouncing::bouncing: My GP and I will monitor it, and she has given me a requisition so I can get another x-ray in a week or two. Yay! I am hoping next x-ray shows it is... (12 replies)
