... I guess these are questions for the dr. I know mine gave me (actually sold me) orthodics before I even had my surgery. He assured me that they will not change after my surgery. They hold your heel in the proper position and help prevent pronation. They will not cure a bunion but I'm assuming (bad word) that they should help prevent recurrence (plus the surgery). Let me... ... but I'd only have had to have bunionectomies instead of those and hammertoe surgeries. Using orthodics and stretching my shoes helped, but I still had a high level of discomfort in almost all shoes except sneakers. ... (16 replies)

... I have had a lot of foot problems growing up. I am 20 now, and over the years I have suffered from bunions, hammer toes, flat feet, and over-pronation. I started wearing orthodics when I was five, but when I younger my bunions were the main cause of most of my pain, and as soon as my growth plates closed when I was 14 I had a bunionectomy on my left foot, and had it done to my... ... My feet looked pretty normal just a few weeks after the surgery, but I could tell there was still swelling when I tried to fit them into certain shoes. :) I can't remember the exact timing, but I had my surgery in mid-May and I do know that by the end of August I was teaching full time, on my feet a lot and wearing all of my pre-surgery footwear. ... It sounds like it is a neuroma, which is a tumor that is developing along the nerve pathway. I had one removed that was caused by bunions but it can be caused by other things as well. If it is a neuroma, it will never go away, usually the pain gets worse until surgery is needed. ... (1 replies)

... I also believe expensive shoes do help a great deal with protecting your feet and I have always worn shoes that were wide and comfortable. I caught my bunions because I used to do ballet when I was younger. ... (240 replies)
... You may not need to wear custom orthodics, at least not all the time. I am a great believer in orthodics, but there are some pretty good ones that you can get over-the-counter that will fit in most shoes, including many dress shoes. I usually wear them when I am doing a lot of walking or am going to be standing for a long time. However, I have no trouble doing without them... (240 replies)
... Not that I know of, but the right orthodics might help any discomfort or pain that you feel. My doctor says the tendancy toward bunions is hereditary.
