... It sounds like a possible arterial clot! That is very serious. Did you have a Doppler ultrasound at the hospital? You need to go back to the ER (maybe a different one?). Do you have pulses in that foot/ankle? If it is truly black/dark blue/purple, it is a sign of circulation being cut off which leads to gangrene and infection. Please go back to ER without delay! ... led the ankle and immediately thought it was broke. It was numb, and swelled immediately. Went to ER and they thought for sure it was broke, whole foot purple, swollen knee to toes. ... 9 weeks ago I fell from a 10 foot ladder landing all my weight (6 foot 260lbs) on my left ankle. Needless to say it was nasty, the whole foot purple swollen from knee to toes, got a huge blood blister (which is still there) on the outside of the ankle, my foot was unrecognizable. ... JD, Have you been putting the ice pack behind your knee? This is what I had been told (not at the foot) and it has worked tremendously to take the swelling down as well as making the pain MUCH LESS severe. (almost immediately after applying). I don't think the cold could be felt inside the boot or thick padding anyway. Have had this boot on for 1 week now and aside from it... (8 replies)
... Good Morning, Peoples! ;) Thank you for your replies. I'm still having problems with a LOT of swelling - it gets especially horrid at night, as it worsens as the day goes along, even though I'm spending *most* of the day in my recliner with foot elevated. I'm going to call my family doc today, but I do have an appointment with my podiatrist tomorrow (though... ... that doesn't bother me. I wore a cast for 3 weeks in the summer and had no ankle issues afterward. My foot swells up sometimes but the weirdest thing is how my toes go numb if my foot is elevated for a long time. Even at night, I have to hang it over the edge of the bed to get feeling back in my toes. ... (8 replies)

... Bootcamp, How do you manage to ice your foot with a hard cast on or do you have a boot you can take off? If a hard cast, my guess is that when they re-casted you they made it too tight. Keep in mind they wrap your foot with all that qauze and then the fiberglass cast over that so not much room for your foot to breath. If you till have problems you should go back... (4 replies)
