... It sounds like a possible arterial clot! That is very serious. Did you have a Doppler ultrasound at the hospital? You need to go back to the ER (maybe a different one?). Do you have pulses in that foot/ankle? If it is truly black/dark blue/purple, it is a sign of circulation being cut off which leads to gangrene and infection. Please go back to ER without delay! ... JD, Have you been putting the ice pack behind your knee? This is what I had been told (not at the foot) and it has worked tremendously to take the swelling down as well as making the pain MUCH LESS severe. (almost immediately after applying). ... Good Morning, Peoples! ;) Thank you for your replies. I'm still having problems with a LOT of swelling - it gets especially horrid at night, as it worsens as the day goes along, even though I'm spending *most* of the day in my recliner with foot elevated. I'm going to call my family doc today, but I do have an appointment with my podiatrist tomorrow (though... ... Bootcamp, How do you manage to ice your foot with a hard cast on or do you have a boot you can take off? If a hard cast, my guess is that when they re-casted you they made it too tight.
