... Talking about unpleasant! My 2nd toe now looks like my big toe and hurts pretty bad. I've still got a long way to go in my recovery. I'm really hoping that the weil osteotomy hasn't failed, as I still feel the classic "knot or standing on a bunched up sock" feeling in the ball of my foot as I did before surgery. ... (10 replies)
... I am currently 6 weeks post op now. I just had my pin removed yesterday and as to be expected, I have very minimal mobility in my toe. I had a weil osteotomy w/ a hammertoe repair as well. While my toe hurts, I'm finding it very difficult to transfer any pressure toward the front of my foot, as I have a great deal of swelling on the ball of my foot, similar to prior to my... ... Hi, I had pip fusion with pins on the 4th and 5th toes and weil osteotomy on 4th and 5th metatarsals on both feet, last tue 6/02. My question is i was told to keep my feet elevated and use the darco boots for the toilet and things like that until I go back on 26th. Thing is I had to travel nealy 3 hrs the same night and 2 days later 4 hours home so the feet wasn't elevated... (1 replies)
... Good to hear, thanks. I'm only having one toe done and will supposedly only wear a Darco boot afterward. Supposedly I can put weight on it right away though I know there will be limitations the first few weeks. I was told I can drive as soon as I'm off the pain meds, and can ride a bicycle after a couple weeks and an indoor bike even sooner.
This doesn't sound so bad, but... (3 replies)

... The Weil osteotomy (cutting of bone) was developed by LS Weil to treat “static disorders” of the lesser toes. The term “static disorder” is perplexing since the forefoot is in all respects a dynamic structure. The purpose of the procedure is to shorten a metatarsal in the management of pain in the sole of the foot, “metatarsalgia”. The rational escapes me.

... Hi. Today is June 21st. I had my surgery on May 30th - I'm still NWB and in a boot - using a knee-scooter upstairs and have my son carry it downstairs when i need to get down there. My sweet 13 year old son has been a Godsend (even without having had surgery, of course!).

... Hi. I have a pin in two toes after hammertoe surgery (and bunion surgery with Weil osteotomy). I want to know if, when they take those pins out, will the toes go back to their natural curvature? Right now they are sticking straight out - which, when I had the sutures removed, they said was normal, "because the pins are in them". I get the pins removed on July 1st - will... (3 replies)

Wow the drama continues for me. It appears that I have torn my plantar plate in three other spots on my feet. One on my right foot under the Fourth MTP and under my second and fourth MTP on my left foot ( I previously had surgery on my right foot to fix 2nd MTP plantar plate tear )
My surgeon is absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend him if you are... (27 replies)

... My head is spinning.
In my research on the topic of Hallux Rigidus, I've come across many different types of metatarsal osteotomies.
Phalangeal (Moberg), decompression (Weil), periaticular, and many more.
Do any of you understand the difference between them? If you do, might you be able to explain them to me?
I thank you. My head thanks you. (1 replies)
... Four months ago I broke my second metatarsal, tore the plantar plate, and formed two large neuromas. Took six weeks to dx and, after seeing a board-certified foot/ankle ortho, have been 10 weeks in boot. Bone finally mostly healed but headed Thursday to repair rest of the mess.
Any advice much appreciated. Will be NWB for four weeks and another four in the boot. ... (1 replies)
