On Thursday my doctor gave me some samples of Toprol to take for my sinus tachycardia. Before this time, my resting pulse was usually within the "normal" 60-100 bpm range, but was just irritable (in that when I'd exercise or have anxiety it'd increase quickly not to a dangerous level, but higher than ideal) and so I would get palpitations pretty often. Anyway, so I've taken two days' worth of Toprol at 12.5 mg each day. Within the next few days, I am supposed to increase this to the entire 25 mg pill once a day, and then go to my doctor in two weeks.

However, I have noticed almost immediate effects since starting this medication: my heart rate is now consistently in the low to mid 50s, I feel like a zombie, I can't sleep but I'm damn tired, I feel lethargic and heavy, my stomach is bloated feeling, I can't exercise because I have no energy and get out of breath rather quickly now, I ache all over, my fingers feel cold, and my left arm has a dull ache, I am depressed more than I was before, and I am anxious for no reason.

I know the signs of a heart attack, but I also know chest pain/arm/leg pain are side effects many experience while on Toprol.

My question is: what should I do? I fear taking this medicine for another two weeks ... and espepcially after increasing the dosage in the next few days!! Can the medicine really work that fast or does it have to build up over a couple weeks before taking effect (therefore suggesting my current symptoms are just in my head or unattributable to the meds)?

The arm pain is on and off and also in my right arm, but not quite as much. I keep reading these websites about arm pain and so now it is also in my head that maybe I'm having a heart attack or something. This sucks. (and I'm scared)
