Re: Worsening pc's
Apr 10, 2002
Beta Blocker's are the first line of treatment.. I can tell these PC's are really getting to you, have you considered discussing an ablation? It' s a procedure used widely for other arrythmias, you are sedated in a cath lab, a catheter is guided through your groin, and into the femoral vein while you are monitored.. it's guided into the heart, and they stimulate the heart to generate the PVC's and PAC's (and PJC's if you have them) .. once they see the exact site(s) generating these .. they then apply a small burn (ablation) to that area to damage it and basically, cure the patient of any more PVC's/PAC's... Many people on this board have had a EPS/RFA (Electrophysiological study) and went on to lead a normal life without anymore symptoms.. it's a safe procedure, I myself, have had it done twice now...

The reason they increase with age is basic .. think of it like your car... doesn't run as good as it did 8 years ago.. hear that engine knocking?

Perhaps you think a EPS/RFA is a little too much at this point..most PVC's/PAC's (in the anbsece of other heart disease) are caused by levels of potassium, magnesium, and calcium that may be too high or too low.. they can be cured with simple supplementation... have you had any blood work over the past year? Definately consult with your doctor before attempting this... too much supplmentation can cause the same problems as levels that were already too low... It's unlikely they will stop unless the underlying cause is treated, like I said, this is usually an imbalance of the electrolytes.. with age, everyone's PVC's/PAC's tend to increase .. how often are you having these?
Take care, write back.
