About 6 weeks ago I had an unwilling oral encounter (i was drunk )for about 20`30sec before I came to. I went to my Dr. He orderd a full screening to relief my aniiaty about herpes. All came back negative ecept for the WB it said inconclusive. I was going nuts about herpes and other things but not HIV. He ordered another which I went today and will have results Monday~Tuesday. My question is I have read recieving end of oral was very low risk especailally with no ejaculation. My Dr told me that this test is real reliable so that is why he ordered an immediate retest. What could make the test inconclusive?
Hi. First, do you know if an Elisa test was done before the western blot? This is very important to find out because a Western blot should not be done without a positive Elisa.

That said, I have had indeterminate Western blots due to pregnancy and cross reacting antibodies. I see that you are male so obviously that is not your case. But there are other reasons and cross reacting antibodies that can make the test come out inconclusive. From my understanding there are antibodies that are so close to the hiv antibodies that the test just cant determine wether or not it is positive. Do you know how many and what bands showed up on the Western blot?

I know it is very stressful, but the only thing you can do right now is wait for the next test result (and make sure elisa is done before the w.b.). You seem to have had a very low risk encounter so hopefully it is just a fluke and the next one will be negative. Wishing you the best.
