Swollen lymph node
Jan 22, 2001
I have what i think to be a swollen gland on the right side of my neck. I went out 4 days ago with my friend and he decided to start kissing my neck, which was o.k., but then he decided to bite me on the neck. He did not break the skin, but it was kind of painful. A day later I noticed on the right side of my neck a hickey, but behind it about an inch behind it in the same spot where he bit me was a lump and a red spot. I really don't think his the bite would cause hiv, but I think that the lump is a swollen gland that maybe i did not notice before, and maybe it is a early sign of hiv. It is only on my right side. It has been 3 days since the bite, so the reddness has gone away, but the lump is still there. I keep feeling it about 100 times a day! Could the lump have been caused by my friend biting my neck? I know for a fact that the lump was not there before he bit my neck because I am constantly checking my neck because I am so paranoid all the time.
UGA Girl,

If there skin was not broken, there is absolutely no risk at all of contracting HIV in this way, even if you partner is HIV+.

A gland can become swollen for hundreds of reasons - localised/generalised infection (including skin infection, scratches etc), harmless viruses (i.e. colds and flu) or even due to allergies and toxins in the air.

I advise you take a trip to your doctor with regard to your swollen gland if you are worried - you may even mind it's not swollen at all and it's only that you've noticed it now due to feeling it.

Also, stop feeling your gland - constant probling makes glands stay enlarged. Try to keep away from touching it for a week and see if it goes down.

I reiterate, as far as HIV is concerned, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Best regards,

Rachael
