... HIV can live outside the body (which is why you can catch it from a blood transfusion), but it's not supposed to live more than a few minutes once exposed to air. I think the chance of catching HIV from sharing dishwater/sponges, even if both people have nicks on their hands, is very small, because the water would partially dilute it and the virus would be exposed to air...
