A friend of mine won't stop getting sick. She got mono from sharing a drink with someone a few years ago, and she hasn't been back to work since. She recently had whooping cough, she gets migraines, colds, flu, asthma, anemia, bladder infections, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, insomnia, low grade fevers, she's depressed for obvious reasons, but may have mild bipolar disorder. She just seems to always have something wrong with her. She isn't one to ask for help, but she has Medicare and they aren't really taking the time to find any underlying cause for anything. I think that there is, but I don't know what could be wrong. Could it be an immune disorder? and is there a treatment for it? Thanks for any and all your help!
It almost seems like it could be an HMO that is provided by Medicare. They generally don't like to spend a lot of time looking for something that may be expensive and time consuming. Why traditional Medicare wouldn't want to take the time, is strange. After all, they would get paid for it, wouldn't they?

If she's in an HMO provided by Medicare, I would advise switching back to regular Medicare, assuming that she can afford whatever costs are associated with it.

Other than that, I would look for the most obvious things first that don't require a doctor. If her immune system isn't functioning up to par, I wonder if an improved diet could be of help. From my experience, many older people just don't eat a balanced healthful diet of whole foods.

And how about some exercise: Going for regular short walks could be very good. If it helps with her insomnia, it might also help with her feelings of fatigue. And getting plenty of sleep would likely boost her immune system.

Everything is connected and one thing can lead to another. So start with the obvious and build up from there. Some encouragement from you would no doubt go a long way. Good luck.

:)
