Growth spurt
Dec 23, 2008
... I have read that growth spurts tend to occur in the 3 week, 6 week, and 3 month. I know that there is no normal or usual when it comes to babies, but Liam is 2 weeks old and will not stop eating. ... (4 replies)
... There is a growth spurt at 6 weeks, so its normal for them to want to eat more then. Have you tried a binky when he acts hungry? ... (6 replies)

... Follow his cues, he won't over eat. Babies this young only eat when they are hungry. He might be going through a growth spurt also. Second, a 3 week old should not be getting cereal. That is WAY too young. The only time a baby under 3 or 4 MONTHS should get cereal is if a dr has recommened it for reflux. ... (6 replies)
... I just wanted to let you know that you are DEFINITELY not alone in this! My little guy will be 6 weeks on Monday, and he seemed to have had a growth spurt last week. This week he hasn't been eating quite as much, and since I am pumping and bottle feeding him, I now have WAY too much milk! ... ... Everyone tells me that the 6 week mark is the hardest. They tend to shfit things around on you just when you get used to some sort of routine, LOL. Also 6 weeks is a time that they usually go through a growth spurt, could be that. I am going through all of this right now too. ... (8 replies)
... baby onto the breast because you tape a small feeding tube in place so they get supplementation while still breastfeeding. This is really important for the first 6 weeks because your supply is not established yet. Things become more regular after the 6 week growth spurt. ... (7 replies)
... She's also been grumpy. She's never been much of a sleeper, but I'm thinking she's going through the 3 month growth spurt. Last night she slept for 6 hours for the first time ever. It probably won't happen again tonight because of all the fireworks. Do growth spurts make babies sleep longer? ... (4 replies)
... I agree, don't supplement!! I had to for medical reasons (DD had a possible enlarged kidney and was dehydrated because of mistakes I made) and it was the WORST thing I did. Now, at 12 weeks, I think I have finally gotten away from supplementing (but not without effort - pumping, herb supplements, and NURSING!). It is TOTALLY normal for your baby to eat voraciously at this... (3 replies)
... Thanks baby. I need to get hip to lying down and feeding her. That definitely sounds more comfortable. These every hour or so feedings are draining me, but if it's building up my milk supply, that's a good thing. If she's going to go from 2 weeks of age to 6 weeks eating like this, she's going to be a porker:-) She's already gained 1 lb. since leaving the hospital 2 weeks... (3 replies)
... LOL!!! My ds is 6 weeks old and is still doing this to me! It's actually a good thing. The more you put her on the breast the more milk you will have. ... (3 replies)
... Noah is going through his 6 week growth spurt a little early. He's eating like a mad man!! ... (24 replies)
... I think in hindsight, we never had a 6 week growth spurt, though I thought at the time we were. We are definitely having one at 8 weeks. All she does is eat and sleep. She is draining me dry with all the eating. ... (62 replies)
... week growth spurt in the traditional sense. I can tell she is gaining weight by her cheeks and thighs, but still fitting very comfortably in Smalls. ... (62 replies)

... months.Babies usually start eating more the week before esp. breastfed ones to build milk supply for their growth spurt. So I would say it's pretty normal. ... (2 replies)

... Thanks for responding. A week or 2, huh? ... (5 replies)
... LOL... usually a week or two. I was bf'ing through that growth spurt, and I was so close to quitting. The only thing that kept me bfing was the fact that it was actually quicker to pull out a boob than to make a bottle, esp. ... (5 replies)
