Dilated kidneys
Sep 6, 2003
Hi, I am new to the site. I would appreciate any insight anyone may have. I started having GERD (reflux), and at about the exact same time I also experienced pains in my right upper quadrant and left. This all was preceded by being extremely distraught and not having eaten for 6 days. I orginally THOUGHT that I might have a gallbladder problem, but I could not figure out the left side pain. I went to the doctor, and she gave me medicine for the reflux, and she ordered an ultrasound. While at the ultrasound appointment, the tech asked me if my back ever hurt, and I asked where did she mean? She said anywhere, and I said it hurts any given spot almost daily. The pictures were taken of my right upper quadrant; the tech left the room, and she then came in and took a picture of the left kidney. "What is the world?" Anyhow, two weeks had elapsed, the reflux and pains in the side subsided and almost entirely disappeared. I hadn't heard a word about the results, so I assumed there was nothing found. Two weeks to the day I get a call, and I need another test. Now, I was hearing words but not listening. I have to have a dye test because I have dilated kidneys. I don't know if that is all that will be viewed on Wednesday; I was just not in the frame of mind to retain the info. Anyhow, the nurse said do not worry at all, really, you shouldn't be. It might just be gallstones and then you have to have your gallbladder removed. What do dilated kidneys have to do with gallstones? I am not getting the connection. I must admit my lower back both right and left side do have a dull ache. I have had aches in my back for years. I do alot of heavy lifting. What could possibly be wrong with my kidneys? I mean from one gamut to another. I have always been fairly healthy, and I am not a diabetic TO MY KNOWLEDGE. I don't believe it is possible for me to have a pelvic inflamatory disease unless it has been dormant for 10 years. On the ultrasound of my kidneys, which has been performed, if there were cancerous tumors, would those have been visible at that time? No one has said anything about cancer, but I watched my father suffer through one of the worst cancers, and I am a bit paranoid. Any ideas of what it could possibly be, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, and I think I will enjoy the company of others. Pookysuki
