Cancer: Lung Message Board

Cancer: Lung Board Index
Hi Amanda,

Thanks for responding. Yes, I am asking about lung cancer and the spot found on my lung that was 2mm, I followed up with another xray and it is now 3mm. Lung cancer is prevelant in my family and I am concerned. Are there any other symptoms of lung cancer if detected this early? My Dr. said the person may have misread the xray. I am being referred to a specialist, but I am wondering what other peoples experiences have been with this type of news.
My sister had metastatic lung cancer which originated in the breast. She was all set to undergo High Dose Chemotherapy (with her stem cell reinfusement a few days/weeks? later). However the day before they did another chest x-ray just to be sure it had not spread (the first one was done a few weeks before and came back negative) However, this time they found a spot the size of a quarter on her right lobe I believe. A biopsy confirmed it. The cancer at this point was of the very agressive type, and her last and only chance of beating this disease (the HDC) never happened.

I debated recounting this incident because of the negative outcome. However, this was her experience -- not yours.

No, I appreciate your honesty. I would rather be prepared and educated than the alternative. Im sorry about your sister. I have a lot of chest pains, tired all the time, diarrhea, but no cough. We will see, but I assume the cough and coughing up blood comes with later detection. How big did her spot start when they found it? I will let you know. I want it tested because of my history, I dont want a Dr. who will just say, "lets just watch it" until its too big. Will they do that or does it have to be a certain size?
