Lung & Respiratory Disorders / COPD Board Index

I would wonder if you have a pain or sensation that "catches" your breathing on the left side when you inhale. Pleurisy, an inflammation of the lining of rib cage and over lung, can cause a pain with inhalation, that causes one to stop their air intake, and it can happen on just one side. It often does not show up on any tests. It is not usually serious, but typically runs its course within 2-3 weeks. More common in smokers, and after a viral infection. Can be related to autoimmune disorders that cause inflammation. A chest CT scan rules out most serious issues, especially if done with contrast. If you have pain with inspiration, research pleurisy a bit, and see if that fits. Also, be sure that your spleen is felt with Dr exam, to make sure it is not enlarged.
