Lung Nodules
Nov 11, 2003
I've read people who have 1 nodule, but what if you have 2 - one in the upper right lung and one in the lower right lung? They are both under 1cm but they don't appear to be from an infection or fatty deposit.

I'm scared because if it's cancer, surgery might be out of the question due to other chronic lung problems.

The doctor said the edges aren't "smooth" like what you'd seen in a benign tumor, but they also aren't "s???" - I can't remember the word but they don't have the spider leg-like look either, which is common for malignant tumors.

I'm having PET scan but I was told that PET scan only help once the nodule is over 1cm.

Does anyone else have more than one?
Hi - thanks for asking. Yes I got the results and it is good and bad news. The test was negative for the lung nodules being malignant so far. They will have to be watched in the future though because they might be too small to have registered now. But the bad news is that the pelvis area "lit up" on the PET so I have to take more tests. I'm hoping it's just an infection. But I went from Lung cancer message boards to Colon cancer message boards. One worry got replaced with a different worry! So it hasn't been a fun week! And there aren't many active message boards for colon issues, so it's been hard to find reassurance. I guess I'm just going to have to stop thinking about the "what if's" for now.
Yeh, I've been there during those testing weeks when one thing gets set aside cuz another one popped up, puts a strain on the nervous system. That uptake in the pelvic area could be nothing but they have to check ya anytime there is abnormalities like nodules in the lung etc. I know when they did mine they said the liver had suspecious nodules so I had more testing, came out to be the same thing on the lung, a benign cyst. You'll probably have a colonoscopy and I can't remember the other test but it begins with S. Just stop the worry, I swear there were times that the worry of not knowing was worse than what the bad report would have been. Like "let me know so I can plan for it" otherwise you are in limbo.

Hi again -

Just to update....got back from the oncologists tonight regarding the CT scan he ordered after abnormal PET Scan. Everything seems okay. Pelvis "lit up" because of diverticulous and the neck "lit up" because of some gland problem. So I have to get colonoscopy and go to a gastro and another specialist for the gland issue just to be safe.

And shockingly, the largest lung nodule is almost gone. It "resolved itself" which makes them think it was an inflammation. The 4mm is still the same, so I guess they will just keep an eye on it.

I guess everything is okay. Thanks for all the help and reassurance.

i have just recently had bronchitis and went to the emergency room and had a chest xray and they found a nodule. my doc sent me for a ct scan and i have several in the upper quadrants of my lungs. i have to see a specialist on tuesday and i am scared to death too. i know they are small but there are several. took 2 series of zithromax to start feeling better. had a pneumonia shot or i would of had that. i finally did quit smoking just before i found out about these. i am usually sick all winter with bronchitis thats why i moved to florida but i got sick anyway. only 48. my lungs were clear 9 months ago. born on friday the 13th. hate to think i came all the way down here to die away from my family. i guess i could use a prayer and i guess you all could too. amen
