Emphysema is progressive, even if you stop smoking (just not as fast). Chronic bronchitis, however, can improve. Even if colds still settle in your chest and become bronchitis, they will be milder and not last as long, and the cough and phlegm... (5 replies)
... p.s. maybe your other inhaler was Advair (the purple disk)--it really is pricey but supposed to be very good for chronic bronchitis. There is a new inhaler form out which may be cheaper. (5 replies)
... Barb, it sounds like you just had a basic spirometry test (blow into tube). The pulmonary function test is much more comprehensive and if you ever smoked or experience shortness of breath, you should definitely have it done. Your other inhaler was probably Atrovent. The cough is kind of worrisome and probably should be checked out also...Patty (5 replies)

I have albuterol but haven't had to use it in a long time. I was also put on Flovent and then changed to something else that started with an A. I can't remember what it was called. ... I was dx'd late last year with chronic bronchitis. I have been getting severe bouts of bronchitis at least two times a year for about the past 4 or 5 years. Each bout lasts about 2 months from beginning to end.
