I am 36 years old and have been smoking for about 18 years (there was about 2 years in that time that I did quit) usually smoke about half a pack a day (sometimes less - sometimes more).

... I see. I don't fee like I am in denial. I came here and asked questions and people answered...my dr did no lung xray even though she said it may be bronchitis...I do have asthma and have been smoking a lot. I had a dr appt 2 months ago and the dr listened to my lungs and siad they were clear. Not sure how COPD happened so fast, in any event, I deny not much in life that... (7 replies)

Hiya, Cough, phlegm and shortness of breath can be symptoms of COPD but the only way to diagnos COPD is through spirometry test, although X rays have some indication, they are never used to diagnos COPD. This is a breathing test which you can usually do at your GP’s surgery. You just have to blow into a machine and the results will show the volume of your lungs.
