... Howdy, Last month I was downgraded from Moderate to Severe COPD/Emphysema. Also, I've just been prescribed O2 therapy to boot. It's a bummer. I'm still employeed, and I finally have a job I really enjoy, but this O2 therapy (although desperately needed) is going to eventually put a strain on my employment situation. I'm only 60 years old, but I did smoke for over 40 years.... (6 replies)

... Three weeks ago my Doctor told me that i have Emphysema,i'm still smoking and i know that i need to stop but it is sooo hard. I've been smoking since i was 13 and i'm now 56. ... If you look at a section of a normal lung it looks like a tight sponge, with all the little holes very close by. Emphysema lungs are like a sponge that has been ripped apart or stretched if you get my meaning. They will still work but very poorly. ... (4 replies)
... What is true is that doctors, even self professed "experts" on emphysema and COPD do NOT know why it continues to worsen after smoking cessation. ... (4 replies)
... I'm glad to hear you are doing well! Generics are available in other countries, but not in the US. Matter of fact, other than the vials of albuterol for your nebulizer, NONE of the good lung medicines are generic. It's a problem. Use the nebulizer no more than needed. It's a great way to open the lungs, but it works better if you don't use it all the time. In a... (5 replies)

My insurance co. ... (5 replies)
... Your first exacerbation can be very scary as you found out. There are several excellant sites you can learn all about emphysema/copd. If doc said he thinks it may be mild, consider yourself lucky for now. You may have a asthma component to your breathing difficulty. He's right that until he does a full pulmonary function study, he won't know what exactly is your problem -... (5 replies)
