I'm a "newbie"....don't quite know what to say or expect...
About four months ago I started having MAJOR tingling in both feet and my face (circle around my mouth).....
I went to the ER thinking I was having a stroke.....thorough work-up (CT of brain, EKG, multiple blood panels, 3-hour vitals monitor)....all normal.

I did three times general CT scan during 2003-2005 until the nodules disappeared, after that I did once x-ray every year. Unfortunately, it is a "lonely disease" in that apparently only strikes 1:1 million women...yes, only women get it. It is more gender-specific than breast cancer. Lucky us. To put it basically, you can't help your dad. he has a lifetime of being the way he is, and now he's very sick. he'll never get better in the way that his lungs will improve, and basically I can only imagine it to feel like having asthma all the time with a feeling of suffocation. Last month I was downgraded from Moderate to Severe COPD/Emphysema. Also, I've just been prescribed O2 therapy to boot. It's a bummer. I'm still employeed, and I finally have a job I really enjoy, but this O2 therapy (although desperately needed) is going to eventually put a strain on my employment situation. ... mom is 79 with advanced emphysema & weighs 80#'s. Just completed hospital visit & left with CO2 levels in 80% range. She is on 24/7 oxygen at 2.5 liters. If oxygen removed, her level with drop to 40-50% pretty quickly. Doctors advised us to bring her home with hospice. ... If you look at a section of a normal lung it looks like a tight sponge, with all the little holes very close by. Emphysema lungs are like a sponge that has been ripped apart or stretched if you get my meaning. They will still work but very poorly. ... (4 replies)
