... I was diagnosed with mild emphysema when I was 40, on my birthday, to be turning 40 wasn't bad enough! Well I'm still alive and I'm 56. I plan to continue to exercise, eat right, use my inhalers (Spiriva and Foridil) and maintain my ideal weight. I've gained some holiday weight and it really makes a difference in my breathing. ... ave been on O2 for years that are still active and leading a good life. If you can get pulmonary rehab go for it as it will keep you in shape and allow your body to use O2 more efficiently. ... As someone that is very well versed in Emphysema if he is not on inhalers then either he is not seeing the right Dr. or he is not adhering to the treatment. There is no pill except Theophyline or Prednisone for Emphysema that is used and in both these cases it is not given without inhalers to use also. ... (23 replies)
