... She is going to retest in two months. She said this could be a false reading. I'm not sure why she said that because my ANA was the same last summer. ... (8 replies)
... Also, some people have a somewhat elevated ANA due only to aging, to a family tendency, or to a passing bacterial or viral infection. ... (8 replies)
... Retired, I understand being upended by the word "lupus". I was, too. I headed to the library & borrowed hardcovers with greater detail that you can find online. From them I was able to see if I did have lupus (and I'd had a whole slew of on-off symptoms since early childhood), that even so, it was likely on the milder side. Why? Because my major organs were OK. Yes,... (8 replies)

Late Onset Lupus

... Hi, I know how you feel. I'm 58, went to the Rhemy with joint pain, swelling, stiffness. I was already going to Rhemy for fibromyalgia. My CPR was positive as well as ANA 1:160 homogeneous. Also my anti-smith, rnp, and scl-70 were extremely high with anemia. But doctor won't diagnosis, says the lab work is puzzling. He admits high anti-smith is "virtually diagnostic of... (10 replies)
... Thank you both for your positive words and the information you have provided. I am trying my best to stay upbeat and positive. Last year at this time I was (by my definition) a perfectly healthy person living my life. I ate right, exercised, didn't smoke and had a drink once in while. In February is when all the visits to the ER started and in April I was diagnosed with... (8 replies)
... Retired, I tend to agree with Vee in that if you have no symptoms, you probably don't have an illness at this point, and may never develop one. These autoimmune diseases are weird in that symptoms may precede lab evidence, labs may precede symptoms or even occur by themselves in the absence of illness long term. Antibodies by themselves don't make a diagnosis. I certainly do... (8 replies)
... Hi Vee, Thank you so much for this information. I have no symptoms of Lupus other than these numbers. Unfortunately I feel that I have no faith in my doctor and once I get retested and get my numbers back (Feb 20th) I am going for a second opinion. This has completely upended me as the more I read about Lupus the more frightened I become. I am 58 and feel like if I get... (8 replies)
... I guess we can rule out drug induced lupus if you're not on any medications. I found this bit of information which is interesting: The Anti-ssDNA can be positive in the following... Positive (percentage refers to sensitivity) Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (30-70%) Mixed connective tissue disorders (MCTD) Sjogren's Syndrome Scleroderma Polymyositis But it's not specific.... ... My doctor never mentioned drug induced lupus; only the word lupus. I do not take any prescription meds. I take several vitamins that are recommended for fibromyalgia. Magnesium, CoQ10, curcumin, D, C, fish oil, B12, probiotics, cranberry, and E. Thank you so much for your input. (8 replies)
... Hi there. I'm sure one of the more knowledgeable members will be able to confirm if this us usually true or not, but i thought that ss-dna was common in drug induced lupus? What medications are you taking if you don't mind me asking? I did a little bit of research on this for myself so may be able to help a little bit :-) (8 replies)
... lly fingers and low back and neck. I know I have some osteoarthritis as it shows in the fingers and toes but that can't possible account for positive or negative ana can it? ... (2 replies)

... Funny thing is that I have a very unique name and I was accidentally put in as a new patient due to a spelling error and they were only going to rerun the ANA until I stated that Dr "H" had previously diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. ... (6 replies)
... Hello! I've been reading through the message boards off and on for a few months, and decided to join today. I'd love opinions re my situation... I became ill in October and haven't felt back to 100% since then. I've been sick (low grade fever, aches and pains, sore throat) 4-5 times since then. In February I was DXd with hypothyroidism and then Hashimoto's. I'm on... (8 replies)
... une process." And further narrowed to lupus or sjorgen's syndrome. I started seeing a rheumy last month in Boston who has narrowed things down to my repeat ANA testing coming back positive. ... (6 replies)
... I have been experiencing joint and back pain for the last several years. I also from time to time have had mouth ulcers pop up which until recently researching I never though they meant anything. My doctor did blood work on me and its came back ANA positive 1:160 Homogeneous pattern. It also came back with a SS-A/Ro of 142 which as I understand is HI. I have not heard back... (1 replies)
... My doctor was of the mentality that since these tests came back, there's nothing wrong with me, the ANA must have been a false positive and he will no longer look for anything. ... (3 replies)
... That's interesting, I, too, have an ANA titer of 1:1280 and a nucleolar pattern. I also had a homogeneous pattern at 1:160. My doctor thinks I have early lupus, but not scleroderma because I don't have the skin changes. I do have acid reflux, which started a few months ago, and I know that is a sign of scleroderma. But it can be due to a wide variety of other conditions,... (5 replies)

... I have been going to the doctor for over 2 years now for certain symptoms. Last winter I was sent to a rheumatologist and he did some blood work and said that the parvo virus was present but since the symptoms don't exist no more, that there is nothing to worry about. This last fall the symptoms returned, so I began going to a different doctor for more blood work. Here are... (2 replies)
