... I did ultrasound and MRI scan on both feet and both hands, for the swelling. No inflamation. On the feet, osteoarthritis is noted in thr big toes on both legs. Because there is no inflamation found, does it mean that the reason for the swelling is not autoimmune? Should I insist on muscule biopsy? ... The swelling could be a symptom related to an autoimmune disease called Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (MCTD) which includes lupus but is a little broader. The blue discoloration is probably Raynaudís which is caused by vascular spasm and occurs in several of the autoimmune diseases. So, let's try this again :) The only criteria for lupus I have are fatigue, mild anemia, hair loss, and possibly Raynauds? I'm not sure, but I just know my hands and feet get ice cold at times. ... Welcome. I suggest you read the sticky posts at the top of this thread that deals with Lupus diagnostics. It has a lot of good information. Was the doctor that ruled out Lupus a Rheumatologist? Generally one does not have to have all the symptoms or labs to be diagnosed, merely a combo of some. Reading the lab post above should shed some light on that concern. (3 replies)
