Anti ds-dna ase

... I remember having a blood test done a while ago when I was being worked up for something else, and the test said something about being positive for anti ds-DNA ase, and I know this is an antinuclear antibody, but does it mean that I'm going to get lupus at some time in my life? Or does it just mean that I had inflammation or something? My aunt has lupus, scleroderma, and... (1 replies)

... Hi. ANA is tricky, meaningful sometimes, sometimes not. First, it's positive in many conditions, not just lupus, and then only in conjunction with other "positives" and with symptoms. In & of itself, it isn't diagnostic of anything; but when accompanied by symptoms, it can suggest that more tests & careful evaluation are needed. (You can read diagnostic criteria in the... ... I will be extremely interested to see what the rheumie tells you. I too have suffered the same symptoms as you for two years, including a persistent rash. I had my rheumie appointment about two months ago and had a positive ANA at 1:320 with similar results as you. The rheumie I saw said the positive ANA didn't mean anything, that I had fibromyalgia, and dismissed me with no... (15 replies)
... For the past month and a half i've had a series of diffrent symptoms; headaches, body aches, joint pain, face pain, and fatigue. I went to see my Doctor, and he ordered basic lab work. When I returned for my follow up he stated to me all my blood work was negative, I stated to him that i still felt sick, he went ahead and ordered more blood work, a week later I went to see him... ... Deena, hi, again. I shed hair when flaring: breakage along hairline & generalized loss. I wear wide-brimmed hats of tight weave, good block, avoid midday sun, and take Plaquenil. (That's a first-tier drug appropriate for patients whose major organs are NOT under attack.) The ACR criteria are quite hard to fathom, even for some doctors. My local drs., including... (6 replies)
... Deena, Welcome! I'm just a patient, but NOT being photosensitive does NOT rule out lupus, based on what I've read. Speaking of reading, there are two excellent lupus hardcovers in most libraries & bookstores. Look for Dr. Daniel Wallace &/or Dr. Robert Lahita. Have you read the sticky posts (permanent info posts) at the top of the thread list? One of them contains the... (6 replies)

... Your bloodwork eerily resembles mine, as does your lack of a regular cycle, about two years prior to my sle DX. By the time I was Dxd, my anti ds-dna was extremely high, however my ana was only 1:40 Speckled. Are you experiencing fatigue along with the elevated ast alt? I ask because when my ast-alt were elevated I had bad fatigue, and really vivid strange dreams, then... (9 replies)

... Rebeccajane, just want to say hi and welcome. I saw recent news articles suggesting that anti-chromatin AB is now being viewed as a significant finding in lupus with kidney involvement. This "take" looks recent to me. You can view the criteria "most used" to diagnose SLE in one of the sticky posts (permanent info posts) located above the thread list. In those, the... (9 replies)
