... Melissa, very *high* anti-ds-DNA points strongly to lupus, but *slight* elevations are possible in some other conditions. In fact, a very high finding would fulfill one of the 11 ACR criteria. But without the reference range, it's impossible to tell how high yours is; so when you discuss your findings with your doctor, you should ask for the range & ask how high he/she deems... ... Destiny, hi. Your first question: I think there are two different measuring systems for ANA. (1) The first is a simple ratio, like the 1:40 you mentioned. I *think* some experts consider 1:30 (and above) to be high. (2) In the second measuring system, the number doubles for each dilution. Examples: 1:80, 1:160, 1:320, 1:640, 1:1280, etc. I *think* some experts... (3 replies)

... On my last bloodwork, the results were back to my doctor's office within a week. On my lab work, the normal reading for anti-DS-DNA was 0-4 and mine came back at 47. Good luck with everything and let us know how your results turn out. Tricia (3 replies)
... What is a normal ANA test? I read like 1:40. Mine was 1:1280! I'm told it was also speckeled. I had blood drawn for a double-stranded DNA. How long does that take and what is the normal reading for that? Thanks, Rebecca (3 replies)
... It is a Lupus specific test - from what I found it is found in 40-60% of lupus patients - if you have positive ANA and a flag for dsDNA I think it is very likely Lupus. I'm not a dr - just have had those two tests and am waiting to see Ruhmatologist (1 replies)

... Hi again. Articles almost always state that Vitamin D deficiency causes fatigue; and some also state that it can cause aches & pains. Getting your level back to normal range s/b very interesting, to see if your symptoms improve. Do you have any known risk factors associated with D deficiency, e.g., avoid sun, vegan diet, GI malabsorption, etc.? (Just curious. My D tanked... (5 replies)
... Thank you for your reply. From what I can gather from blood work,my thyroid is good. I did have a neck ct done due to several enlarged lymph nodes in my neck and collar bone area and no infection showing up. But from what I know all of this cane back normal as well. Some of the symptoms I have been having is pain in my legs, arms, neck, shoulders, and back. Pretty much at... (5 replies)
... Melissa, those are good questions, and you're not alone in wondering. I believe ranges aren't shown because ANA and antibody results always have to be viewed by a doctor, and in the context of your overall symptoms & labs. ANA alone is never diagnostic of anything. And we read that ANA can produce false positives at lower values. That it can elevate somewhat due only to... (5 replies)

... It can be positive in autoimmune hashimotos: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1765977 If there was a connective tissue disease present as well, most people are going to have something more to prove so. Your WBC or RBC could be low. Platelets might be messed up. Inflammatory markers (ESR, CPK) may be elevated. There are a bunch of different blood tests that can be done... (2 replies)
