... I have an appt. to get a second opinion for my infertility next month and I will bring all this up with him as well. Hopefully he'll agree to test me for the antiphospholipid antibody syndrome. Is this just 1 blood test? ... (6 replies)
... Good morning. This sounds very frustrating, as many of us here have likewise experienced...! Have you read the diagnostic criteria for lupus? You may find the 11 in one of the "sticky posts" above the user threads. Generally, but not always, you must meet at least 4 to sustain a diagnosis of SLE. They should be considered "permanent", i.e., envision checking each off, once... (2 replies)
... Melissa, very *high* anti-ds-DNA points strongly to lupus, but *slight* elevations are possible in some other conditions. In fact, a very high finding would fulfill one of the 11 ACR criteria. But without the reference range, it's impossible to tell how high yours is; so when you discuss your findings with your doctor, you should ask for the range & ask how high he/she deems... ... mentioned, I would pursue it, as a podiatrist is not a specialist for lupus, and you deserve to have that looked into. Kudos to the podiatrist for ordering this test if he saw something or heard something worth investigating! ... (6 replies)
... I just got some blood test results and am confused. I have a negative ANA but a positive DS DNA test. I read that the DS DNA is highly specific for Lupus, but that you should have a positive ANA test, also. I also had low RBC and Hematocrit. Thoughts? ... (6 replies)
... Hi. Do you have hardcopy of the labs, or were results read over the phone? My lab prints out-of-range vs. in-range values in separate columns. For anti-ds-DNA, my lab uses these ranges, BUT there's no guarantee your lab uses the same. For something this important, I'd ask the doctor for hardcopy. < 25, Negative; 25-34.9, Equivocal; 35-99.9, Weakly Positive; 100-200,... (2 replies)

Ds DNA @ titer 20
Oct 26, 2012
... Hi. Apparently anti-ds-DNA can vacillate: it can be higher just before, or at the start of, flares; and once it turns positive, it stays positive. I don't know that it's a titer test, though (sorry), you'd have to ask. Unfortunately, if the reference range on the report says >10 is positive, then >20 appears to be solidly positive, but you should confirm with someone familiar... (3 replies)

... Thanks for your input VeeJ. The followup with my GP is open. It's pretty much up to me. I can see him on fairly short notice. Since I posted my message I have done some reading and I see that many rheumie's diagnose a patient with Lupus based solely on the anti-ds-DNA. Makes sense if it is very selective and it is so hard to make a diagnosis otherwise anyway. I'll discuss this... (3 replies)

... I am in NO WAY an expert but I know that anti ds dna is ONE of the tests used to diagnosis Lupus. ... (2 replies)
... Destiny, hi. Your first question: I think there are two different measuring systems for ANA. (1) The first is a simple ratio, like the 1:40 you mentioned. I *think* some experts consider 1:30 (and above) to be high. (2) In the second measuring system, the number doubles for each dilution. Examples: 1:80, 1:160, 1:320, 1:640, 1:1280, etc. I *think* some experts... (3 replies)

... On my last bloodwork, the results were back to my doctor's office within a week. On my lab work, the normal reading for anti-DS-DNA was 0-4 and mine came back at 47. Good luck with everything and let us know how your results turn out. Tricia (3 replies)
... Lori, Where lupus is a possibility, I think elevated B.U.N. and creatine in bloodwork are signs kidneys aren't filtering properly. (I just reread your original post & realized you said those values were NOT QUITE out of range.) And urinalysis includes checks for "urine casts" and for protein in the urine, which are also signs of abnormal kidney function. Have they... (6 replies)
... and the pattern just show how strong the antibodies are and what part of the cells the antibodies are attacking. Some people test positive even when they don't have an autoimmune disease if they're fighting off certain infections. ... (6 replies)
... Hello, I had a simular experience with my GP. He ran an 'ana' and it was negative, but I still had alot of other symptoms, so he sent me to an RA Dr. He also ran an 'ana' and other test. IT came back positive. He did tell me I had FM and could or couldnt say if I had 'lupus'. All my first BW like DNA DS, SS-A and SS-B for Sjogren's was (-). I too have alot of the... (2 replies)
