Multiple Sclerosis Board Index

Hello,

I am new to this board and hoping someone here can give me some assistance on handling a MS issue I have had for about 4 years now.

I was originally diagnosed with MS in 2001 after having some loss of feeling in my legs and feet. That went away after about a month, and I was good for a few years with really no symptoms.

Then one day all of a sudden I was having really bad double vision, so my MS doctor put me on steroids for a few days at the hospital and things cleared up.

Then a few years later again, I woke up one day and had real difficulty walking around. They did another MRI and said they wanted to start me on Avonex. I've now been on Avonex for several years and for the most part my MS is doing fairly well. Mostly good days, but occasionally some bad days or weeks.

The main issue I suffer from now, which has been about 4 years now, is intense burning and tingling in my arms, hands and feet whenever I lay down to sleep. I feel it all day, but while I'm up working and walking around I don't really get bothered by the pain.

But whenever I lay down and try to nap or sleep for the night, the burning and sensations of being shocked are so intense it prevents me from sleeping.
My doctors have tried me on amitriptyline, gabapentin and for the last couple of years Pregabalin(Lyrica).

None of them by themselves provided enough relief to help me to sleep, so my doctor put me on sleeping pills (Zopiclone) as well. Now at least I can get 4 or 5 hours sleep before the burning and shocking comes back to wake me, and then there is no getting back to sleep.

Just this week my MS doctor suggested I increase my Lyrica dosage to double what I've been taking. He said it is okay to up my dosage before bedtime to 300mg. He said that should help keep the burning and shocking pain away for a little longer allowing me to get a few more hours of sleep.

So my question to you guys is, I would like to know what you guys take for your MS pain, and any suggestions to help me.

Sorry for such a long post.

Thanks :)
