... Black under the nail can be a bruise or a fungal infection. If fungal, nail will usually be thick, ridged or bumpy and sometimes have lots of debris underneath. I would leave the artificial nail off, keep toes dry, trim off any length as it grows, and use of the antifungal is fine. Some infections if extensive require systemic antifungal meds to clear up.
