... Thank you, Marti. I will check with the podiatrist on this. There are apparently only two podiatrists in the whole of Malaysia. I wonder what might be a common cause of these curved nails ? (4 replies)

... Hi Marti, Sorry to trouble you again. I've noted a a few of my nails are unusually curved. The right foot's second toe (next to the big toe) has the nail curving downwards (longitudinal curve ?). So far it hasn't really caused any trouble though, and hopefully not later. (4 replies)

... The nail plate cells are 'born' in the Matrix. You can see the leading edge of the matrix in your fingernails - it is the white half-moon at the base of the nail that we call the Lunula. The longer the Matrix, the longer the nail bed. If the matrix is narrow, the nails will be narrow. There is nothing you can do about this as it is genetic. As for the nail growing... (2 replies)

... Pincer nails are severly inward curving and will 'pinch' the nail bed. This can eventually become very painful and will require surgery to remove the sides of the nail so they won't curve inward. ... Did you injure you toe at some point? A damage nail bed can heal wrong and cause this. I would cut your nail straight across and only cut the curve only if it gets too bothersome, and not close to your skin. Anytime you cut your toenail too short or with a curve, instead of straight, do you get ingrown toenails. I would just keep it clean and keep an eye on it. (4 replies)

... My big toe nail has been acting wierdly for a couple years now. A test 2 years ago couldn't confirm whether there was an infection. It started out by growing at an angle and outward, away from the now. Now, it has begun to curve inward at the top quite a bit. I'm not in any pain and I'm trying to keep it under control. I know you're not supposed to cut it too far down, but I'm... (4 replies)

... Go get the ingrown portion of nail removed and keep the nails short so there is very little free edge. Tuck your clippers so you can cut away any sharp corners at the sides. You can also tuck some cotton under the sides to lift them up. Once you get the cotton under the sides, you can put a drop of peroxide onto the cotton or soak the cotton with antibacterial ointment. ... (2 replies)
