... Hello, The test is not all that painful and not barbaric, I have had a dozen in both legs and the arms. The test can be very beneficial showing loss of nerve conduction between the extremities and the rest of the body. While the sural nerve biopsy is supposed to be the gold standard in showing SFN the EMG/ENC were used more in my disability determination, go figure. ... (3 replies)

... That's an interesting question. They are fairly accurate in detecting damage but there is room for human error. For example, EMG results can be altered if the patient uses any creams or lotions the day of the test. Both tests rely on someone who is skilled in interpreting the results. ... (2 replies)
