... p on the mammogram. I started citracal D on November 19th and will start Fosamax D 70mg this week. I must say after reading some of the things on this site about Foxamax I'm quite nervous. My PCP doesn't think the problem with the mammogram is serious as it showed a spot on each breast in the same spot, so he doubts it's cancer. ... (6 replies)

... Hello all! I am a 37 year old male recently diagnosed with severe osteoporosis in wrists. I had a BMD test yesterday. My doctor prescribed Foxamax and a calcium supplement. ... (4 replies)
... r, You may be lucky that your docs don't push meds on you; drugs like Foxamax have only been used for the last 10 years and nobody knows what effect they might have on you over the next 60 years that lie ahead of you (unlike most osteo patients, who have half that time left, at best). Read! This site has loads of information of supplements like strontium citrate, which... (4 replies)

... Taape< I was taking 1500mg of calcium citrate with Mag and D per day. Since I was also taking in dietary calcium it was too much. My endo took me off supplementry calcium except for a couple of 200 mg's pills once a day and put me on dietary calcium. I was drinking and eating total of 1500 a day. I am still trying to do that. My urologist wouldn't commit to say my kidney... (4 replies)
... Taape: I have been going through a situation with slightly elevated calcium since last March, and what I can tell you about how much calcium is too much, is to have a Total calcium test, and an Ionized calcium test done and this will answer your question. If both of these test come back in the normal range, then what your taking is fine, but if either come back elevated or... (4 replies)
... Ralange, Sorry to hear that you had a kidney stone and had to have it removed. That's painful. Were the large amounts of calcium you took from a supplement? I'm wondering what dosage you took that was too much. I take 1500mg/day plus eat foods with dairy but I thought that the excess Calcium that the Bdy can't absorb just passes through your system. Am I wrong about that?... (4 replies)
... Ralange: I have been lurking for months but when I read your post I had to respond. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in the fall of 2001 and immediately put on Fosamax. I wasn't happy about it but the doctor and the media had me so scared I felt this was my only option. I also started walking and taking large amounts of calcium. When I had my next dexa 18 months later my... (4 replies)
Bone loss in jaw
Oct 20, 2006
... Hi: I agree that it would be a good idea to talk to the doc that is treating your osteo and see what he/she say's. It's also normal for people to loose jaw bone density as they age from 30 on, so I wouldn't "automatically" assume it's a result of the fosamax (maybe-but slim). I have bone loss in my jaw, and it occured "long" before I ever took any osteo meds. My jaw bone... (7 replies)
Bone loss in jaw
Oct 16, 2006
... I have experienced bone loss in my jaw - possibly from taking foxamax - Is there anything I can do/take to build bone in my jaw? I have dental implants that are in jeopardy. I am taking calcium+D and am on bio-identical hormones. Thanks! (7 replies)
... I am also from the UK - I think alendronic acid is a bisphosphonate. I was diagnosed just after Xmas this year with osteoporosis but am much older than you are and there is a family history and I have been put on Foxamax (also a bisphosphonate) which I am not entirely happy about but so far no side-effects. You should have a copy of your results - mine were posted to me and... (9 replies)
Please help
Jul 10, 2005
... Hi, orlandoflorida, Has your doctor scheduled you for a DEXA scan? I think it's important to get accurate measurements of your bone mineral density now--especially as you approach menopause, when bone loss becomes more rapid. You might need to go on hormone replacement therapy for the "bone-friendly" effects of estrogen, if you are indeed suffering from osteo of the... (2 replies)
