Opana vs Ms Contin

... Ms Contin is LA morphine. It's been around quite a while and is available in generic and is very affordable. Other LA oral morphine products are "Kadian" and "Avinza. ... (12 replies)
... mg of oxycodon as need for br pain. I really like the avinza cuz i dont feel it "kick in" like with alot of other oppiates, and is doing an okay job, much better coverage than the fent. ... (6 replies)

... I've not specifically tried Ms Contin, but I do use LA morphine...First Avinza, and now Kadian. I've read from many who have tried all three morphines that Ms Contin doesn't last nearly as long as the other two. I've had great success with Kadian 3 x. ... (5 replies)
... About half the dose at .6 hours, and the rest at about 6 hours later. If you want a smoother delivery of Morphine, I would go with Kadian or Avinza. Although Avinza has a small amount of instant release pellets. Most people that have been on Kadian have nothing but good things to say about the release system they use. ... (8 replies)
... I've heard people say there's a lot less up and down's with Avinza and Kadian compared to Ms Contin; it seems to me that the jury says they are much "smoother" medications. Oh, and the insurance co-pay is different ;) j/k--what you didn't want to hear! (4 replies)
... I think the main difference is the different formulations. MS Contin is designed to be taken twice a day and Avinza was designed to be a once a day medication, although it's being given more often these days. ... (4 replies)
... what is the difference between MS Contin and Avinza? ... (4 replies)
... Why not just ask to have the Avinza dose upped if it's not providing reflief. If you could get your dose upped to 120 2x daily, that might help more. ... (6 replies)
... i take MS Contin. ... (6 replies)
... i have only a lil advice i can offer. MS contin is a longer acting morphine, but not as long as avinza. Methadone it completly differnet. ... (4 replies)

... Another option could be to try dosing the MS Contin even more often. I found it didn't even last me 6 hours, but I never got up to a good dose on it either. ... (2 replies)
Kadian vs. Avinza

... for even the 20mg pill. I didn't find out until I got to the pharmacy last month so I had to switch at the last minute to generic MS contin 15mg every 8 and even with the increase of 5mg per day I felt an increase in my pain level. ... (2 replies)
... ie. Avinza or Kadian vs. ... (21 replies)
... Its now generic, and would probably be closer to Avinza than MS Contin would. But yes, MS Contin will be the cheapest of the three. ... (12 replies)
... Everyone responds differently to different meds and doses. I'd just have a discussion with your doctor at your next appointment about how you have had an increase in pain lately (also specify if the pills aren't lasting as long as they used to, such as 4 hours instead of 6 hours or whatever). Yes, for chronic pain which hasn't responded to other treatments a long acting med... (14 replies)
... we had also batted around the idea of methadone, oxycontin, and I guess its either MS Contin or Avinza maybe...? ... (11 replies)
Kadian vs. Avinza
Dec 27, 2011
... I am a long time user of Kadian and just discovered, to my horror, that it is not covered under my new insurance plan. My dose/quantity equals about $850 per month. It appears as though Avinza is covered as a brand name with a high co-pay, but nowhere equal to $800. Can someone or anyone please discuss the key differences between the two medications and their delivery... (2 replies)
... I've asked a pharmacist the same question. "Will Avinza provide the same pain relief as MS Contin or Morphine Sulfate? ... (6 replies)
... I thought Dilaudid(hydromorphone) was still a SA(short acting) medication in that it lasts 4-6 hours. So you are basically taking 2 SA medications. It would make better sense to be on a LA med (like MS Contin, Kadian, Avinza) and Percocet for BT Pain. But I guess your doc knows what he is doing brian (17 replies)
