Generic Avinza?
Mar 29, 2015
... I've been taking the brand name stuff for quite a long time. The past few months, Walgreens has not had my Avinza in stock when I've needed to fill, even though I've been going there 4 years and have been on the same dose the whole time. Cue the wild goose chase to find it! ... (0 replies)
Kadian vs. Avinza
Jun 26, 2014
... Hi toonces, Due to insurance I changed from Avinza, that I had been taking for years, to kadian which is the generic version. Avinza was faster at relieving my worst pain, upon awakening in the morning, working within 1 hour & it lasted for 24 hours for me. It took the dr & I some time to figure out the best times to take the kadian & it's fine now except the 2 to 3 hour... (2 replies)
Kadian vs. Avinza
Jun 26, 2014
... I haven't taken either (just the MS Contin) but I have heard of folks getting 24 hours out of Avinza, so it could be worth a try before going to a different med, assuming you were doing well on the Kadian. Interesting they won't cover generic Kadian but will cover the brand name Avinza. It must end up being cheaper for them. What does your doctor suggest? Another option... (2 replies)

Kadian vs. Avinza
Jun 25, 2014
... Hi everyone. Been away a while. I had a very successful procedure and got down to 20mg of Kadian twice a day (from 60mg twice a day) but my insurance just dropped it and dropped the generic version too because the generic version still cost many hundreds of dollars (about $400) for even the 20mg pill. I didn't find out until I got to the pharmacy last month so I had to... (2 replies)
Kadian vs. Avinza
Dec 29, 2011
... Hi Toones, Where you taking the same number of mgs per day back when the MSC didn't work. I took Kadian 3 times a day, 200 mgs TID. Same thing happened to me and I switched to the same dose of generic MSC 3 times a day and felt no noticable difference other than timing needed to be more precise. If that was early on in your pain med trial and error experience and the dose... (2 replies)
Kadian vs. Avinza
Dec 27, 2011
... I am a long time user of Kadian and just discovered, to my horror, that it is not covered under my new insurance plan. My dose/quantity equals about $850 per month. It appears as though Avinza is covered as a brand name with a high co-pay, but nowhere equal to $800. Can someone or anyone please discuss the key differences between the two medications and their delivery... (2 replies)

... ly is sick with fevers, bronchitis, sinus infections. I myself have had a horrible head cold for over a week. So, I am not sure if my upset stomach is due to the avinza or this virus. I was on Opana a few months ago and I do remember feeling like I had morning sickness for the first week on that, and then it slowly faded. ... (4 replies)
... You should notice it working right away. I took Avinza for a while...It worked great. ... (4 replies)

Avinza Question
May 11, 2009
... No, they are all the same size and color. 20% are immediate release, 20% are released in about 4 hours, 20% are released in about 10 hours, 20% are released in about 14 hours, and the last 20% are released around the 18-20 hour mark. The directions actually say that you can sprinkle them on your food if you have trouble taking pills. Avinza is definitely the longest... (1 replies)
Avinza Question
May 11, 2009
... So, I just switched to Avinza after giving MS Contin a fair shot for 3 weeks. I'm starting at 90mg Avinza. Just curious, I know there are some immediate release and some time release. ... (1 replies)
... I am going through the change from Avinza to a different med due to insurance as well. My insurance, a medicaid HMO, WELLCARE refuses to cover Avinza despite my doctors appeal. ... (6 replies)
... Yes, Juliet is correct. Also, you should know that even though both are "timed release" they are different in that Avinza is marketed as once per day and Kadian is marketed as 2 x. Avinza is longer lasting. ... (6 replies)
... I am taking kadian (have never tried avinza). I have started two different times, and I would say it took me a while to stabilize on it. The first week I was taking was terrible for pain, even though my total dose of morphine was going up. It has gotten a little better after about 3 weeks. I had to buy a completely new and additional insurance plan this year just to get... (6 replies)
... are trying to get help already by looking into the financial assistance through the drug company though. I hope you can get some help so you can get back on the Avinza and start feeling better soon! ... (6 replies)
... Hi everyone, This will be pretty short (sorry!) because I'm feeling really sick and I'm trying to get other stuff done, too. I started PM on Christmas Eve (and what a wonderful present, indeed!), and my doc started me on Avinza, which was GREAT! I felt like it controlled my pain well for as long as it said it was supposed to (I only thought about BT pain maybe twice... (6 replies)
... Just thought I'd let everyone know that late last week, King Pharmaceutical announced two new dosages of their popular LA morphine med, Avinza. Previously available in 30mg, 60mg, 90mg, and 120mg, they have now added 45mg and 75mg. Their primary competitor, Kadian, is available in 20mg, 30mg, 50mg, 60mg, 80mg, and 100mg.
