... Sounds to me as if your Doc is just against hydrocodone. Just because one is allergic to one pain med, doesn't mean you are to another. In fact, it's probably less likely in your case because as I mentioned previously, codeine is a natural med and hydro is synthetic....It was developed specifically to reduce the number of side effects. Lots of people with asthma take pain... (26 replies)

... Miralax every morning. It's great. No taste and no mouth feel. I eat a fiber one bar as part of my breakfast and make my sandwich out of double fiber bread. Plenty of water at work -64 oz. at least. My SIL swears that a glass of WARM prune juice is what they give in the geriatric ward to help those folk who are "bound up". Something about warming the prune juice up seems... (12 replies)

... Hi! I have to deal with this problem due to Vicodin and Cymbalta. Mirilax on a regular basis-not just when I get backed up-plus daily doses of Colace work for me. If I get really backed up-like can't go for 5 or more days- I am miserable! I sometimes have to resort to a Fleet enema to get things going. All I can tell you is what works for me and all is over the counter.... (12 replies)

Are opioids safe?
Sep 10, 2008
... Wren, Opioids are some of the safest medications available. The full agonists, meaning those with no tylenol or aspirin or anything else added, cause no organ damage at all. Tylenol, on the other hand, can cause liver damage if taken in excess. The maximum one can take in a day is 4,000mg. If taken chronically, many docs like to see that number dropped to 3,000mg... ... Hello and welcome! Many people here have a wide array of experiences, so hopefully, you can get some good support. Yes, tolerance is the issue. You don't give any overall time frames...A better timeline would be more helpful. My guess is that the patch probably contributed to your tolerance quite a bit due to it's overall strength.
