Delaudid???
Jul 11, 2006
... My doc gave me a new pain med today, called Delaudid. I've heard of it before, and the couple of times I've gone to the ER for my back pain I have been given a shot of this drug. It worked wonderfully, but I did not know it came in prescription pill form. Does anyone know exactly what this drug is? How much of a "step up" (for lack of a better term) is it from the norco 10/325... (7 replies)

... Dave, I know its been a long time since you posted your reply to someone about their pain medication - but in your response you mentioned that the goal of pain med is not to eliminate pain but to make it tolerable. As a person who had severe chronic pain since 1989 I have to disagree. I have found many doctors who say what you did - but I finally found one who felt that I... (7 replies)

... You're very welcome. I'd like to share one other thing because from your note I get the notion that you may be relative new to using strong narcotics. And you mentioned how one med made you feel versus the other one. If you are more experienced than I'm assuming, and what you read below is something you already know, then please just disregard this post. What I want to... (23 replies)
... thanks so much for your responce. it clears up alot of my questioning. i think the oc-20 works better for me (particularly) than these delaudid-2 i have. gotta speak to my doc. soon. thanks again.---bad L-5 dude. (23 replies)
... Each of us reacts to opiates differently. And, while one opiate may make me giddy, another one of equal strength may put me to sleep. About potency - dilaudid is thought to be 5-7 times stronger than morphine. Oxycodone is about 50% stronger than morphine. So 8mg of dilaudid might be equal to around 56mg of morphine, while 20mg of oxycodone is equal to about 30mg of... (23 replies)

... i am just kind of suprised that your doc would actually go from something milder like the hydro and skip over the oxycodone directly to something like dilaudid.that IS a big step up there like others have mentioned. I am definitely no expert in this but (shore?) wouldn't going to dilaudid from hydro actually help to create an overall opiate tolerance much quicker than if... (7 replies)

... I have been on the iv several times while in the hospital and yes it does take the pain away very well(not sure if the iv version is different strength) But it gave me awful dreams. Clear vivid and scary dreams! almost not worth it for me, but when in that much pain it wasn't an option:rolleyes: (7 replies)

... Hi Misti, Ozzy is correct about Dilaudid or generic hydromorphone, but sttrength isn't just determined by by comparison to one drug or another, the number of mgs is really the key factor. Hydrocodone is almost as strong as morphine, but not vailable in a pur e form without tylenol, so the amount you can take is limited by the recomended max dose of tylenol you can take. ... ... Hi Mysti - Dilaudid is the drug I took for breakthrough pain for almost a year. I took 4-8mg every 6-8 hours. I found it to be a very good drug that took care of my breakthrough pain. It is a much stronger drug than the Norco-type drugs as Lezlee has already mentioned. It has been around for a very, very long time. Hope it continues to work for you. KathyMac:wave: (7 replies)

... Dilaudid is hydromophone. From what I understand it is about 8 times more potent per milligram than morphine. It ususally takes effect within a short amount of time and lasts for several hours. It sounds like a substantial step up from the Norco, but I'm not a professional, so maybe you could do a web search for more information. I hope it brings you relief!! Good luck!... (7 replies)

... ter the surgery is when all of the pain problems came on. During the surgery they did hit or pinted a nerve in my spine. I was in the hospital for 12 days on the delaudid pain pump and 2 percocets from that surgery. I do not think my pain is from that though. They went through my right side of my neck to put it in. ...
