... In reading the prescribing information, very little lidocaine is absorbed. The reason for the 12 hour limit is to help prevent breakdown of the skin. I use both the very expensive commercial patches and my own made with 5% lidocaine ointment. It is not an opioid ("narcotic"). (7 replies)
