... laceymay-- I too have emetophobia and I wonder if having that starts a downward cycle when confronted with something that makes you worried or anxious because when that happens you feel like you're going to throw up.....which makes you more anxious....which (as just said), sends you on a downward spiral. ... sounds like the paxil and lexapro werent working, this does happen sometimes, maybe try an antidepressant of a different type such as effexor to reduce your anxiety, I think its anxiety but OCD is an anxiety disorder, anyway fear of vomiting is called emetophobia, details on net (5 replies)
... That's actually true! I have read a lot about emetophobia and some emetophobes can go 20+ years without throwing up. Doctors believe we can actually control it somehow...the way we breathe, maybe the panic...I don't know. ... Dan...I have the same thing, its called emetophobia. It causes me a lot of anxiety and panic. I am scared to go anywhere for fear I will get sick. I have had it since I was about 11. The best thing to do would be to have your p's take you to the doctor and tell him or her that you have a fear of vomiting that causes you anxiety and panic attacks. It's embarrassing, but trust... ... Debra - do you have a fear of vomiting? Emetophobia? Cause I do, that is what causes my anxiety and vice versa. i lost 10 pounds over the course of a year because of it, but my meds helped me get my appetite back. I just eat very small amounts at a time so I don't ever get full, then I usually fell pretty good. it's easier than trying to eat a whole meal. (7 replies)
