Re: May Mommies 1
Sep 30, 2004
Stephie - My heart goes out to you. I was in your same boat a few weeks ago. I was about 5 weeks pregnant. I went to the er(on a friday) and they scheduled me for an ultrasound the following monday. I went alone because I thought all I had was constipation that was causing the cramping. The ultrasound showed only a yolk sac, no fetal pole and no h/b. It also showed a sac of blood next to the gestational sac. I was devasted. I have had two m/c in the past six years so all I could think about is my body is rejecting another baby (I'm Rh neg). They scheduled me for another u/s that Friday. This time I brought reinenforcements. My friend is about a week more pregnant than I am and she came with me (My husband was in the field and the good ole' army wouldn't let him come). In those 5 days from the first u/s a baby could be seen as well as a heart beat. It's like it was curled up in a ball with the yolk and suddenly had to stretch! I work with a whole bunch of nurses, most of which have spent time in an ob setting. They had tons of stories like our where a mother would have an u/s and nothing would be there but a yolk sac only to have an another one less then 24 later and a fetus showed. Have positive thoughts...the body is an amazing speciman. I will keep you in my prayers.

I went to motherhood maternity and saw a heart monitor that can detect it as early as 20 weeks. It was $30 so I'm not sure the quality but it was recommended by a couple people as working pretty well.

You guys are a lot more restrained then I am when it comes to holding your tongue with your md's. I would have flown off my handle if any of them would have treated me that way. Then again, these hormones have made me moody, I probably would have just bursted into tears. I can honestly say I love my ob and ob nurse. I go to an Army hospital which has the reputation to be ruse and stiff necked but I am getting treated better here then when I had my son with a civilian md. The sad part is I am moving back to Ohio w/ my mother when my husband leaves for Iraq to be close to family and have emotional support. Luckily Cleveland has one of the best hospitals in the country...I just hope I can luck out with my md and get a good and caring one... The one thing you do have a say in is making sure you like your md and his nurse...

Well, I think I've droaned on enough for one evening....

Sarah
