... I quit smoking on Jan 4, 2004. After wearing a patch for three weeks, I went nicotine free and went through the normal problems. Now that 8 weeks have passed, I am concerned about my lack of concentration and what seems to be a very poor short-term memory. I am also not as articulate as I was. I will add that I had major surgery on the 4th and was under for 2.5 hours. Anyone... (7 replies)

... I think nicotine does affect memory. It seems to me that they were doing a trial on alzheimer's patients. Your doctor might have some suggestions for you, maybe that ginko stuff would help. Time takes care of some of it too. Also, if you are like me, check your blood pressure. That sure made me feel like I was in a fog! (7 replies)
... I agree with Deda - my memory has always been bad - even while smoking. LOL I would see your doctor about this and also keep a log of forgotten memories. They'll be asking you how you can tell, etc... Keep the quit :) Laurie (7 replies)
... say they have trouble concentrating after they quit smoking, but I would think in time it would improve. But I've also heard of people having problems with their memory after being under anesthesia for surgery. Maybe you should discuss this with your Dr. And congratulations on your quit too. ...
