... The surgery is scheduled for this Friday morning. The downside of the two level acd is I'll be in a hard neck brace for upwards of 3 weeks "so they say", vs. one week for the the single level fusion... ... (4 replies)
... thanks for your comments karin... I'll run your thoughts re: two levels without fusion by the doctors and see what they say... I know the one doctor- Schiffer- claims to have been performing such surgeries for 15 years and had a two level acd w/out fusion done on himself years ago... It seems to be a pretty common practice in Europe. if you surf the web regarding the... (9 replies)

... I was wondering how everything went for you. I have the same thing as you. My doctor has me getting a series of 3 epidural cortizone shots. I have had the first one. Did your doctor mention this to you? I would like to hear if you had your procedure done. I have not yet talked to anyone with the same problem as mine. (2 replies)

... This is late, but I have read several studies online where ACD without fusion works as well if not better than Anterior Discectomy with fusion. ... (2 replies)

... Congrats to you Deb! I am almost 8 weeks post ACD (with fusion here) C6-C7 and can say that I feel absolutely fabulous. I too had radiculopathy but I can tell it's subsiding and the strength to my left arm is returning quicker than I had thought. Granted, I only had compression on my nerve root and the corresponding pain and weakness for a mere 6 months, but that was long... (1 replies)

... Hello ALL - It's been a long time since I've checked in here. Had surgery 12/28 ACD C6-7 no fusion. I was patient #138 for my NS to do this procedure on. After the positive response to the nerve root sleeve injections, I was ready to move onto surgery. So far, so good. The NS said I was a mess. That not only was the herniated disc a problem, but I also had a thickened... (1 replies)
... PM, 3 Epidural steroid injections, etc. All have only provided temporary relief. Still have chronic pain. My orthopedic feels that I am a good candidate for a ACD and would like me to see a NS. I have done a fair amount of research and agree with my orthopedic. Through some friends I have found a very good NS. ... (4 replies)
... I am scheduled for my second ACD on 2/4. This one at C67 in 1996, first was at C56. I got the domino effect along with an ostephyte formation this time. Problems started three months ago and cervical traction has not helped. I am not as bad as I was the first time and the doctors say this is all that will help. I didn't do very well 8 years ago with all of the drugs they... (2 replies)

ACDF on C7 and T1

... Hi. Please read my "lansur" posts. I've had 3 acd&f's C5,6 &7. They all left me with a great deal of pain. (The last one - C6,7 - also left me with torn supraspinatus ligaments in both shoulders. This caused when over aggressive O/R staff strapped my back to the O/R table! Now I may likely need surgery to repair the tears. I sure didn't need this additional pain! :-( !)... (4 replies)
... This is my reply to all of you who have experienced pain in your shoulder(s) following ACD&F surgery. I had my 3rd fusion at C4,5 last October, 2012 after C6,7 and C5,6 in 2008. This time around, however, I have had sore shoulders, especially my right one. I had an U/S done and it showed a 20 (x 2 x 9) mm tear in one of my tendons (Supraspinatus tendon). I had been told... ... I was scheduled for ACD c4/5 & c6/7, C5 & c6 corpectomy with instrumentation, and posterial wiring. When I awoke I realized I was not cut from behind. After asking the nurse she said my bones were to crudy and the dr would explain at my follow up appt. I got impatient and got a copy of surgical report. They started at c4-5 and removed the disc an found an impressive osteophyte... (1 replies)
... I'll be honest. I have multi-level fusion and still being fresh in my recovery, I can't say long term benefits just yet. My short, what a difference. I'd do it again in a heart beat compared to the pain I was feeling. However, my mother (also a Deg. Disk Disease sufferer) had the same surgery, but only 2 disks and at first she said she was saved. But 15 years... (3 replies)
... Actually the surgeon didn't even mention fusing but the papers he gave me was on the ACD and F so it kind of confuses me. The risks involved scares me spitless! I just don't know what to do but I seriously doubt I'll have the surgery done. ... (3 replies)
... inserted. Once cage is there is would have no motion so it is like fusion anyhow so I would get that clarified so you have no surprises. There is ACD that is disc removal but no hardware or fusion and I think they leave some material in there. ... (13 replies)
