Thanks for your post.
Still no wiser about the exercise, it's now 2 weeks post-op, and walking lots, but no other exercise.
Have an artificial bone and titanium spacer in between C6 and C7, with a 3 torx head bone screws holding it all together, so fairly conventional I think? Cheers (8 replies)

... Greetings from Australia,
I am having a C6/C7 discectomy and fusion, (ACDF), due on November 19. The Dr says that post-op, I will be wearing a collar 24/7 for 6 weeks, and the only exercise allowed is walking. Also says I can commence static strengthening exercises, (whatever they may be), directed by a physiotherapist once the collar comes off.

... You are still very, very post-op right now.... You will need to give it a minimum 6 weeks before you even want to try some of your activities. Or you will run the risk of a bad fusion, or even hurting your neck even more.
You need to let your wounds heal & let your spinal cord to realize "Hey I'm not so bad now...Let's repair ourselves!".

... While there may not be a special "fusion" diet, I do think that its prudent to consider what sorts of nutrients your body will need to help you heal to the best of your ability after the surgery.
After a fusion, your body will need to generate new bone at the fusion site. Just as you need the right ingredients to bake a cake, you need the right nutrients to build bone.... (8 replies)

I am 16 days post op on a bi-level (C5 - C7). My throat was never horribly sore but certainly I have that "blocked" sensation which is improving, but slowly. I guess if I had to describe it I would just say my throat feels more "closed" and a little tight.....but I... (2 replies)

First, I'd like to thank all the people who have posted their experiences on these boards. I gathered more information here on how to prepare for my surgery than from anywhere or anyone else.

... Hi captnanny!,
Sorry I haven't been on the computer in awhile. I saw my dr. yesterday for my 4 week post-op appt. I asked him about PT -- he said if I felt I needed it they would of course schedule it for me - but for someone my age (he called me young! I am 42) they don't automatically send you to PT. It seems like every Dr. is so different in what they think is... (7 replies)
