... I go in on Feb 13th, and again twice more in March to have the cervical epidural nerve block shots for 2 severely degenerated disks in my neck. I've read a lot about it, and understand what the doctor is going to do, but how much is this going to hurt? ... (25 replies)
... Cortisone shots in general can go one of two either have immediate relief or it causes a lot of pain for a day or 2 before the relief kicks in. ... (4 replies)
... I was informed that my voice might be hoarse for some time due to the surgery and some people have issues with their vocal cords. You can go to an ENT and have them check out the situation. Do you have a plate and screws. Not that I have heard of it too often, but maybe the plate shifted a bit or the area is inflamed or swollen? Good luck if you choose to check into the... (3 replies)

... Hopefully you have researched your options and the surgeon who will be doing your surgery and had at least 1 or 2 other opinions to make sure they all agree. I was similar to you that I waited until the pain was unbearable and my quality of life was decreased. I also tried alternatives to no avail. How long have your symptoms been going on? Do you know what caused your... (4 replies)
... was there for 5 due to complications. Some people go back to work at 6 weeks others longer. There are many options. You can try PT, chiropractic, acupuncture, cervical epidural shots and selective nerve root blocks prior to surgery. Good luck and keep me posted. ... (2 replies)
... Sorry it took me so long to respond. I remember what it was like right after surgery. Glad you are doing so well after your surgery. Just take is slow. I thought I would go back at 6 weeks also. Didn't happen. I guess alot depends on what you do, the hours and commute. Just remember that if you feel you went back too soon you can always go back out. That was something... (10 replies)
... So sorry for the time you have been suffering and the waiting that you have to deal with. My waiting was self imposed because I couldn't deal with the seriousness of my conditions. It was probably stupid on my part, but hindsight is 20/20. I am blessed that my surgeon is wonderful, open and honest. Look into TOS and RSD. That was the recommendation that was made to me... ... Jenny, Thank you so much for your words of wisdom. Yes the titanium plate and screw are probably fine. I am having so many more muscle spasms in my neck, shoulders and back. I just hope that there isn't damage elsewhere in my neck and back. I do feel as if I was lucky since there wasn't a car in front of me and the airbag didn't go off. Sometimes I second guess myself... ... Your head it going to feel heavy for a long time. Just remember to listen to your body and not push yourself. I wanted to go back to work at 8 weeks, but didn't. I would be concerned with the lump by the incision site. FOr me cold worked better than heat, but each person is different. Until you are able to speak to someone who went through something similar it is hard to... (10 replies)
... How are you doing now. I had my procedure at about the same time. ... hear that. Went to the Rheumatoid Arthritis and that bloodwork was also good, not RA, Lupus or any connective tissue diseases. Doing one more blood test and a cervical X ray to see if I have an extra cervical rib which could mean TOS. The vascular surgeon did not feel that was the issue. ... (17 replies)
... ysical the following Friday. Just love all the doctor visits. Then my 6 month check with OSS on June 8th. Hope there is enough bone growth to stop wearing the Cervical Stim. The joys of getting old. ... (17 replies)
... Time to be nervous again. Went to the OSS office and saw the PA so I didn't have to wait too long. Did a few tests with my fingers, hands and arms and listened to my concerns and symptoms. Having pain in my neck, tightness in my neck and shoulders. Knots in my shoulder blade area. Muscle spasms in my entire back and neck. Most significant symptoms are heaviness in upper... (17 replies)

... Hi to all. I am 4 1/2 months post-op at this time. I am pleased that once the day gets started and I have completed my exercises I have decent ROM to the left and down a bit more limited right and very limited up. My strength is still poor. Generally I use 2 lb weight at home to complete exercises. There is one that I use a 5 lb weight for. My son still carries the heavy... (3 replies)

... It can take up to a few weeks to feel the total relief. I've done quite a few cycles of 3 shots (one shot every 2 weeks) over the last few years. Sometimes it takes until shot 2 or 3 for me to get full relief. And if I'm lucky they work for 6 months before I can do the next cycle. This Friday I start the cycle again. (5 replies)

... When I had cervical epidural shots, the doc that did those gave me a three page instruction sheet and info on what to expect. You'd think they would do the same thing for surgery. ... (6 replies)
... Well I'm glad your expierences were positive Kathy. I've heard plenty of stories both ways, even having bad and good reactions in the same person to different shots. I've consulted my PCP, a spine specialist, a neurologist, none of them really say anything, they just go "Ehh, give it a week." and give me more pain meds. The doc that did the actual injection did it at a... (2 replies)
