... I just wanted to say that you don't have to have spinabifida to run in your family in order for it to happen. The key here is to take your prenatal s BEFORE you try to get pregnant. ... I heard from the doctor today, my son does have a thethered cord. They are setting up more test first with checking bladder, ortho, for scorolis. From what I've read about the surg. it takes 4 to 6 hrs. then they are in NICU 4 to 5 days. They will have to lay still for 72hrs. ... Thanks for the reply. I am so worried about what I don't know yet. I can't help but worry about the worst possible news. The doctor only told me "tethered spinal cord"...so when I say "spina bifida" on the insurance authorization form I freaked. I had no idea that was an actual form of spina bifida. This is crazy. ... oing though this with my 3yr.old. He has spinia bifida and caudal regression. his dr. needs this done it takes about 2 to 3 hrs. for this test. They will put the baby to sleep for it, so make sure the baby doesn't have a cold that day. They will listen to lungs, if any thing is there they will cancel it. I hope this helps you. ... ... Hi Debbie - thank you for your post! I did not realize that the first sign of symptoms could mean permanent damage as well as re-tethering. Our son has been complaining off and on about knee pain. I have taken him back to the neurosurgeon and he does not believe its re-tethering but he does want us to come back every 3 months to keep an eye on it. I am starting to think its... (12 replies)
... Just another note if you will be trying to breastfeed him - you will need to slide him from one side of the bed to the other in order to feed from both sides. He should be on a board so that won't be difficult to do and will not cause him any discomfort. I would ask the nurses to help you for example when they are already there for the diaper changes.
